I remember reading William Blake poetry in high school, but I don't remember much about it. Although he's best known for his poetry, he also did some pretty amazing watercolors.
He is categorized as Romantic but is also thought to be way ahead of the movement. He illustrated the book of Job, and he wanted to do the same with Dante's Inferno before he died. He scraped by on remaining poor for his entire life.
He work has a very interesting dream-like quality. I'm impressed at his visions of things that in the 1700s could have only come from his own mind, as opposed to now where we are able to see forms morphed and distorted all the time.
Not my favorite, but still very interesting. Nice to know that he was an artist and a poet.
